Wookey Hole and the Surrounding Area

Wookey Hole is a beautiful village just a few minutes drive outside of Wells.

It is a well known Somerset tourist area, famous for its caves and witch! Within easy reach of Wells, Cheddar, Glastonbury and Bath, it is surrounded beautiful countryside, woodland and farmland and The River Axe flows through the caves and village on its way to Weston-Super-Mare, an ideal spot to sit and relax or try a little fishing!

There is a lot of wildlife in Wookey Hole and lots of people visit to see birds nesting. Wild life is abundant, with rabbits, grey and red squirrels, badgers, buzzards, sparrowhawks and kestrels.

About a mile from Wookey Hole village and within easy walking distance is Ebbor Gorge nature reserve which offers fantastic opportunities for bird watching, picnics and scenic views over Wells and Easton. In spring, primroses are plentiful and violets also grow in the vegetation. And for those who are more energetic, there are lots of steep slopes and rocks to climb.

While famous for its caves, the long distance footpaths of The Monarch’s Way and Mendip Way both pass through the village and if you are keen cyclists, you can also join National Cycle Route 3 from the village.
