The weather is quite stormy here in Dulcote today after a sunny May Day weekend and the house seems very quiet following the departure of all of our friends, family and guests. Not only did we have five of our closest friends and family staying with us but we also enjoyed the company of guests from Russia, London, Ipswich and Lincoln.
With 65th and 13th birthday celebrations, it was a great weekend and we’ve had our first wonderful reviews from our guests.
We are now in the final stages of preparation for the opening of our bed and breakfast and were delighted, following an inspection , to be awarded 5 stars by the Food Standards Agency for hygiene
We visited Wells Cathedral over the Easter weekend and decided to join the “Find Louis” competitions. As you can see Louis made it extremely easy, snoozing in the very window the competition notice was posted into!

In the interview he gives candid details of his relationship with Maisie, the Bishops Palace cat and shares his views on what it’s really like coping with national press attention, and especially those dreadful rumours about him terrorising local dogs…….
We made a start on our kitchen garden yesterday with a first planting of broad beans and sweet peas. Didn’t realise what a large plot it was – it took us all morning just to dig over a single trench. Thank goodness the farmer next door is going to rotivate it for us
Everyone here in Dulcote is excited at the news in the Wells Journal today of the first Wells Comedy Festival. Headline acts include Uncle star Nick Helm and Irish Comedian Tommy Tiernan. The event will take place over three days from 29th – 31st May.
This lovely little Robin is a regular visitor to us over the winter and is getting tamer by the day. Took this from my kitchen window while he waited for his breakfast of breadcrumbs
February has been blustery and cold here in Dulcote but there are signs of life peeping through in the garden.
After a long hard winter of extensive renovations to our new home, we are looking forward to our first Spring in Somerset. Our daffodils are beginning to bud and we have lots of other bulbs coming up too – as yet unknown…..
Best of all are the snowdrops, my favorite flower. Only after hacking back what will soon become my herb garden did I find them, and what a display!
